Selling Your House This Holiday Season? – Holiday Decorating Do's and Don'ts

To decorate or not to decorate … it can a real dilemma for sellers.

Your real estate agent has probably told you to your house as neutral as possible, it will make it appeal to the greatest number of potential buyers. On the other hand, you want to feel your home as warm and welcoming as possible, so that the buyer can imagine themselves living there. With these two things in mind, here are some dos and don’ts for keeping your home show ready, while theHolidays:

Thu decorate, but you think vs. seasonal holidays. Seasonal wreaths, garlands, and green is your home feel festive and inviting, without being too reflective of your personal taste. Red poinsettias in baskets and a beautiful stroke of color to enliven a room in the gloomy winter months. So make sure to throw them away when they should get leggy and lose their leaves. Dying plants are a big no-no.

Do not display religious items such as cribs,Menorahs, etc. These can be a turnoff to buyers who do not share, your family’s faith traditions.

Thu pots or planters outside the front entry with seasonal plants kept up to date: Mothers in the fall, evergreens in winter, and pansies in the spring. Leave it empty and forgotten, just because it’s cold out. They may be the only bright spot in an otherwise bleak landscape.

Do not go crazy with outdoor decorations. Give your roof Santa and reindeer, and one years fromsettle for some simple white lights (not flashing, please!) on the bushes or a tree. Leave the icicle lights in the camps.

They have a Christmas tree, if your family celebrates Christmas, and you have small children in the house. But you might want to lighten up to Sally and Tommy’s hand-made decorations this year and keep up with generic ornaments. Take the tree the day after Christmas.

Place several indoor lighting timers to go, once it gets dark (), especially in the front rooms of the house. The house will be a warm glow and an extra curb appeal to buyers that a drive-by in the evening. And make sure the porch or entry lights are working and switched on when the sun sets.

Have you not record your marketing photos when on holiday decorations. If your home stays on the market in theSpring, you do not want to have to take the photos again.
