NEW MILFORD — A family of three has been displaced from their home following a Wednesday fire in the Merryall section of town.
Firefighters were dispatched to a residential structure fire on Clearview Drive around 11:35 a.m. and found flames coming from the rear of a two-story single-family home.
As first responding firefighters from Water Witch Hose Co. #2 conducted a primary search of the residence, Engine 24 arrived at the scene and started dousing the flames with water, according to a post on the volunteer fire company’s Facebook page.
Deputy Fire Marshal Edwin Pagan said no one was home when the fire broke out.
Tankers from New Milford’s Gaylordsville and Northville fire departments provided more than 10,000 gallons of water to the scene and Engine 27 eventually established a water supply at a nearby pond, according to Water Witch Hose Co. #2.
With engines from Bridgewater and Brookfield providing station coverage, Pagan said firefighters at the scene were able to knock down the blaze in about 22 minutes.
Pagan said the fire has displaced two adults and a teenager, who are receiving assistance from the Red Cross.
“At this time, the Red Cross is involved in helping them relocate,” he said.
The fire is currently under investigation by the New Milford Fire Marshal’s Office.
