Gunmen kill Bayelsa assembly aspirant, police launch probe

Some gunmen suspected to be assassins have killed a former State Home of Assembly aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Bash in Bayelsa Point out, Odienyefa Ogbolosingha.

The PUNCH gathered that the bandits invaded the 48-yr-aged Ogbolosingha’s residence alongside the Imiringi Highway in Yenagoa and shot him dead on Friday.

The sufferer, who contested the PDP ticket for the 2023 state Houses of Assembly election, was the youthful brother of a previous chairman of the Yenagoa Community Governing administration Council, late Michael Ogbolosingha.

He hailed from Kalaba neighborhood in the Yenagoa LGA and was also a member of the Okordia-Zarama Cluster Development Board.

A local community source, who pleaded anonymity, said that Ogbolosingha’s assailants experienced a pair of months in the past sent him a concept warning him and a contractor not to have out a street task beneath the cluster board.

“They despatched him a concept some two weeks in the past or so warning him and a contractor to desist from embarking on a street venture by the cluster board in the group. But he sublet the position. He has been a member of the board for some time.

“Now, yesterday (Friday), they have gunned him down in his residence at Imiringi Road, Yenagoa,” the source said.

The spokesman for the Bayelsa Law enforcement Command, Asinim Butswat, verified the incident.

He mentioned, “Police operatives responded to a distress connect with at about 1400hrs on Friday 22 July 2022 that armed adult males shot a person Odeinyefa Ogbolosingha at his residence at Imiringi Highway, Yenagoa.

“The target was rushed to the Federal Healthcare Centre, Yenagoa, for therapy, but was verified useless. Photograph and other evidence were taken at the scene. Investigation has commenced.”
