Early in the morning of Dec. 31, 1953, the original City Property restaurant, situated at 15 2nd St. SE, burned to the floor.
In advance of the final ember had died out, Alfred and Eva Witzke – and sons Harold, Walton and Leonard – operators of the popular institution were on the lookout for a new spot.
They didn’t will need to search considerably. Around the corner, the previous H & H Sanitary Dairy building at 10 1st Ave. SE had been not too long ago vacated. Inside of 6 months, the new City Home showcasing The Hunt Area was opened. A reward was the City Residence Resort and Residences that occupied the 2nd and 3rd floor of the developing.
The Witzke loved ones ran the City Dwelling right until 1960 when Alfred and Eva retired.
The popular restaurant continued to run below new proprietors right up until Nov. 3, 1983, when, like déjà vu all around again, the Town Dwelling burned to the floor.
